| 1. |
What disruption can I expect the network upgrade to have on my service? |
| |
Vodacom is striving to ensure that the impact to you is minimal and we anticipate only 1 – 2 hour service degradation. Although you may experience dropped calls or limited access via 3G, we recommend that you switch your handset to dual mode to ensure that you get the strongest signal possible in the area. |
| 2. |
The network schedule upgrade indicates a start and end date. Does that mean that I will experience a service disruption for the complete duration? |
| |
No, as we are taking a phased approach to the upgrade, you will not be affected for more than 2 hours at the most. The two week window period simply allocates time to cater for delays in the schedule and network optimization tasks. |
| 3. |
The network schedule upgrade indicates 2G and 3G - what does this mean? |
| |
2G and 3G refer to two separate network technologies, each offering voice and data capabilities. These technologies rely on different hardware and work independently of each other, so system maintenance and upgrades on one, should not affect the other. Vodacom has taken the decision to replace the equipment for both the 2G and 3G networks in the same period, to avoid disruption to service in the future. While the 2G equipment is replaced, service is available on the 3G network, and vice versa. In this way we can minimize the impact on the signal to you. |
| 4. |
What benefit will I have after the network upgrade? |
| |
This will ready the network for future technologies that will provide enhanced data access speeds. |
| 5. |
Are there other regions that will be upgraded? |
| |
The full upgrade initiative will run over four years and is scheduled for completion in 2014. As other areas are affected we will notify the public and do our best to ensure that the impact to you is kept at a minimum. |
| 6. |
Was this network upgrade communicated to me in my last month’s statement? |
| |
Unfortunately we were not able to include this update in the last bill run due to the changes to the list of affected areas. We have however published this list on our website and it is updated on a regular basis. |
